For many years the vault pictured here, located under the Manhattan approach to the bridge, was rented to a wine merchant for champagne storage because the temperature changed so little during the year. Other vaults similar to this one contain rusting fallout shelter helmets and casting patterns for the specialized parts of many of the city’s old bridges.
Eugh, a Ferengi episode. I love Ferengi episodes for about two minutes, because it takes TNG’s admirably high level of arch and turns it up to community theatre production of ‘HMS Pinafore’. But the broad ethnic stereotypes eventually make me super uncomfortable and I’m all CAN YOU QUIT IT WITH THE MAYBE ANTI-SEMITISM, GENE RODDENBERRY?
that is a lot of latex to glue to one actor.
So the Space Friends have been told to go hang out with a bunch of broad ethnic stereotypes (BESs), which is particularly hard on Jean Luc because he’s been coming down with headaches.
He asks Beverly Crusher for some aspirin for his headache, and she says ‘a what?’, and he peevishly replies ‘headache, headache! I’m sure you know what a headache is’, and I can totally understand his irritation because headaches are the worst. Don’t be a dick, Beverly.
Anyway, the Ferengi come on board and say something like ‘I can’t believe you have a fully clothed women as part of the space friends!’, which gives Riker this thinking-about-naked-ladies face.
Then they asks how much Data costs, as they’d like to have their own Data.
I’d actually like to know the answer so I can save up for a Data.
Anyway, the Ferengi apparently found Jean Luc’s old ship floating around in space and they want to give it back to him. Wow, Jean Luc mustn’t be the best at captaining if he just leaves ships floating around, but whatevs.
The space friends go to the old ship to pick up some of Jean Luc’s stuff,
but they have to cut it short because Jean Luc gets a SUPER BAD headache and has to have a lie down.
Oh, Jean Luc, I know that feel.
BUT! It turns out the BESs are the ones making Jean Luc have headaches, using a giant trackball discarded by a children’s science museum.
The headache pilot exposits that Jean Luc’s long lost ship isn’t just ANY SHIP, it’s a ship Jean Luc used to BLOW UP SOME RELATIVES OR SOMETHING, and he’s having VENGEANCE by HEADACHE, which is really dark and cruel.
AND THEN! Data and Riker find Jean Luc’s old diary in his stuff and they read it, and Jean Luc says he accidentally destroyed a ship full of innocent people.
And, because apparently it’s been too long between space brain viruses, the headaches make Jean Luc confuse the past with the present, and he’s basically wandering the ship in his nightie looking for the bus stop. Oh, and also hallucinating.
Wesley figures out that the BESs have been beaming space brain virus at Jean Luc, and tells Beverly and Troi, who rush out to fix stuff, leaving Wesley to contemplate setting fires or whatever because he’s kind of a creepy kid.
I guess this resolves itself in the end but I got distracted and didn’t finish watching.
"She talks to plants in languages according to how they look. The dangly chain-of-hearts thing gets a regular "How do you do" but sometimes she is talking to the cacti succulent things in this adorable growly language that sounds like dogs having a meeting."
"Nick had a lustrous mane of hair and flares. I made regular inquiry into his relationship status. I was unaware he was surveilling me at house parties."
